San Antonio Energy Champions

SAEC Building Competition

The San Antonio Energy Champions Building Competition is a program established by Champion AC to educate the public about the importance of careful energy conservation, increase awareness in regard to energy efficiency and provide practical ways to better the environment.

San Antonio is the second largest city in Texas and recently, Mayor Castro has announced that the Alamo City is headed toward a greener and more energy efficient future. Champion AC and the San Antonio Energy Champions Building Competition want to provide businesses and buildings in San Antonio with the chance to improve their energy efficiency through a fun and educational competition. Our overall goal for the competition is to support:

  • San Antonio in leading Texas toward a more energy efficient future
  • The efforts of the city’s plan (SA 2020)
  • CPS Energy’s efforts to save energy across the city

The rules are straightforward – the building that demonstrates the greatest percent-based reduction in weather-normalized energy use intensity during the 12-month performance period will be recognized as the winner. Measurements will be made by percentage of reduction of kwH.

Competition Timeline: Sunday, April 1, 2012 – Sunday, March 31, 2013

Twelve months of bills will be judged/reviewed for the competition, beginning with the April 2012 bill and ending with the March 2013 bill. (Privacy of each participating company will not be compromised. Copies of bills will be reviewed solely by the San Antonio Energy Champions’ management.)

A celebration will be held at the winning Energy Champion’s building in April 2013, following the tallying of all results.
